Range Rover 4.0/4.6 PRIDE – CHMSL Wiring Harness Repositioning

download
DETAIL The wiring for the Center High Mount Stop Light (CHMSL) in the upper tailgate harness may be pinched by one of the screws that secures the panel shelf extension to the vehicle body. When this happens, the CHMSL shorts and blows Fuse 17. This results in a disabled shift interlock system and a vehicle that is stuck in PARK. Taping the CHMSL wires inside the trim piece away from the screw will prevent this from happening. PROCEDURE Disassembly 1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. 2. Open upper tailgate. 3. Release load space lamp from the trim panel, disconnect the electrical connectors and remove the lamp. 4. Remove six Phillips screws securing the trim panel to the upper tailgate (illustration). 5. Release the 4 studs securing the trim panel to the upper tailgate. 6. Disconnect the stop lamp connector. 7. Remove trim piece. 8. Inspect the wires and repair if necessary
